- Protect weak teeth from decay.
- Repair a broken tooth.
- Restore a worn down tooth.
- Hold together pieces of a cracked tooth.
- Improve the appearance and strengthen a tooth with a large filling.
- Cover poor shape.
- Cover discoloration.
These benefits can help restore a tooth and preserve the overall health of your mouth.
No matter what your needs are, we want your dental visit to be as convenient and comfortable as possible, so schedule an appointment for your whole family at our office today!
What Happens When I Get a Dental Crown?
You’ve decided to use dental crowns to restore your beautiful smile. What comes next?
- Your dentist will examine the tooth that needs the crown. Once he or she knows what is needed, they can prepare it for the crown.
- Then they will make room by reshaping the tooth. If the tooth is already too worn down, your dentist may build the tooth up before placing the crown.
- An impression of your tooth will be taken and the lab will create your custom crown.
- In 2-3 weeks the custom crown will be ready! Just return to the office, and your cosmetic dentist will cement the crown into place.
This process can be a bit lengthy, but we are confident in this solution for a number of dental issues.
Why Should I Get Crowns?
A tooth with serious damage will continue to decay unless you take corrective action. Dental crowns allow us to avoid extracting a damaged tooth, which can be painful and require a lengthy healing time. We also want to protect the root of the tooth.
Dental crowns are strong and fit into place easily. Most dental crowns need routine brushing and flossing to remain strong and healthy looking.
If you chew hard foods such as ice or candies, there is a risk of breaking the dental crown, as well as your other teeth. When you get a dental crown, we will discuss food options with you. Most patients are able to enjoy almost all the foods they normally eat with dental crowns.

Types of Crowns
There are four types of dental crowns used to repair or replace a tooth:
- Ceramic – A ceramic crown blends in with the rest of your teeth. Ceramic crowns are often used for front teeth for a more natural look.
- Porcelain fused to metal – A porcelain fused to the metal crown has a strong bond to the root of a tooth and is often preferred for patients in need of new dental crowns.
- Gold alloys – A gold alloy contains copper, gold, and other metals to create a strong bond with the tooth. Some people prefer gold because it does not fracture or wear away the tooth.
- Base metal alloys – Base metal alloys come from non-noble metals. It will stay resistant to corrosion and is used for patients in need of a very strong crown.
Our dentistry creates and seals all dental crowns. We make sure the seal is intact by using tooth cement designed to hold a crown firmly in place. We want your crowns to last as long as they can.
Same Day Crowns
If you are interested in getting a crown for a damaged or misshapen tooth, talk to one of our dentists about same-day crowns. These are permanent or temporary crowns that we can create for you, in-house, on the same day!
This is possible through our 3D imaging technology, where we can “print” a dental crown that fits perfectly. The crown can be adjusted for bite and coloring before you leave the office.
If you need dental crowns in Meridian, call our office to schedule an appointment. If you have more than one damaged tooth, you may also need more crowns or dental bridges.
What are Dental Bridges?
Dental bridges are a great solution for multiple missing teeth. They fill the holes with multiple dental crowns that sit on top of the gums and function like your natural teeth. Dental bridges need healthy teeth next to the gap to support the bridge.
If you have more than one missing tooth, dental bridges are a common solution. Not only are they easy for us to create, but they help patients avoid dental implants, which can be a more expensive solution.
If you have more than one missing tooth, dental bridges are a great solution!
Dental bridges are great for people with multiple missing teeth and can also solve these problems:
- Difficulty chewing.
- Difficulty swallowing.
- Slurred speech.
- Teeth shifting out of place and becoming crooked.
- Further tooth loss.
- Deterioration of the jawbone.
We are ready to help you replace your teeth with a dental bridge.
What Happens When I Get a Dental Bridge?
Getting a bridge is a lot like getting a crown. Our dentists will first examine your mouth. We will make sure that the natural teeth around the gap are strong enough to hold the bridge.
Next, we will use X-rays and impressions to make sure that we create the perfect dental bridge. Once the crowns and bridge are created we will contact you to get them placed. Your dentist will cement the crowns and bridge into place at your final visit. With your new dental bridge, you can enjoy a complete and functional smile again.
We’ll give you a
reason to smile!

Why Should I Get Dental Bridges?
Missing teeth will lead to several oral health problems. If a tooth is not replaced after extraction or loss, the other teeth in the mouth will begin to shift and move in their place. Dental bridges hold the teeth in the correct position, preventing shifting and other issues.
Another issue we find with missing teeth is the deterioration of the bone. Replacing a single tooth with a dental bridge can work, but several teeth in need of replacement could cause the jawbone to deteriorate.
In the majority of cases, dental bridges need another tooth, or two teeth to support the bridge. These teeth are often crowned to provide support for the bridge. We also use porcelain to create the replacement teeth supported by the bridge. Depending on your needs, we can also use gold and other metals.
We offer dental bridges to patients who have more than one missing tooth but don’t want to get dental implants. Dental bridges can last for a while but could need replacement in 10 years based on your oral health as well as any wear and tear from chewing.
Thanks to Dr. Pieper and Dr. Gerard, I can now look in the mirror and love myself again. They not only help you get a pretty smile again but they help give you confidence you should have always had.

Types of Dental Bridges
There are three basic types of dental bridges used to fix multiple missing teeth:
- Traditional bridges – A traditional bridge involves using two teeth to support the bridge. Traditional bridges are the most common type of dental bridge and need routine brushing and flossing to prevent decay.
- Cantilever bridge – We use this bridge when you have adjacent teeth on one side of your missing tooth. We do not recommend this option for molar replacement as the back of the mouth tends to have more force placed upon the teeth when chewing.
- Bonded bridge – A bonded bridge improves the teeth and gums when you have a metal or porcelain framework to support the replacement tooth.
Missing teeth make it difficult to chew, speak, and smile. If you are missing teeth and want to restore your smile with a dental bridge, contact Millennium Family Dental today!
