Meet The Dentists in Meridian, ID

Dr. Gerard says he decided to pursue a career in dentistry because he loves working with his hands and interacting with people of all ages. He loves the variety of procedures, the technology and the continual education that enables him to better serve his patients.

After obtaining his undergraduate degree from Idaho State University, Dr. Gerard pursued his dental degree from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, where he excelled in the clinic and received awards in the areas of implant dentistry and cosmetics. Since graduating and beginning to practice at our Meridian office, he has attended continuing education courses in the areas of implant dentistry and sleep apnea/snoring. Of his decision to practice in Idaho, he says, “I was born and raised in Idaho and I knew I wanted to come back to Idaho. I love the mountains and the outdoors!”

Dr. Gerard feels that dentistry can provide life-changing results for patients. “I love doing implant dentistry and sleep related dentistry because it provides such an amazing positive change for my patients. I can literally give them their life back!” Dr. Gerard’s ideal patient is concerned about their total body health and getting the treatment they need.

On his days away from the practice, Dr. Gerard enjoys riding off-road motorcycles and camping and hiking with his wife Kayleen and their five children.

Dr. Smith wanted a career that combined interacting with people and working with his hands; dentistry was the ideal fit. Being able to take away pain is an added source of gratification, he says, adding “Whether the pain is physical due to a toothache, or emotional due to a patient’s unhappiness with their smile, I can relieve it and change their life. It’s the most rewarding part of this job!”

A native of the Idaho Falls area, Dr. Smith attended Ricks College and completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Brigham Young University. He then attended dental school at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon and graduated with honors in 1995. Upon graduating he became a partner with Dr. Delmar Gray. “I wanted to come back to my home state,” he says. “I loved being able to travel and see more of the world, but Idaho… it’s home.”

When it comes to patients, education is key, according to Dr. Smith. “We need to teach patients the connection between their oral health and the health of the rest of their body,” he says. “My ideal patient is focused on prevention, instead of putting out fires!” Dr. Smith says he never recommends any treatment he wouldn’t advise for his own family members, and strives to always be open, compassionate, and completely honest with his patients.

When not practicing dentistry, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with his family. He and his wife Lorri have been married 27 years, and together they have 4 children. Dr. Smith’s hobbies include skiing, cycling and especially mountain biking.

Dr. Brandon Pieper decided to pursue a career in dentistry after his first year of college. “I wanted a dynamic profession that would allow me to balance my work and a family life,” he says. “The reasons I chose dentistry in the first place are the reasons I still love my profession today; for me, I believe there are few professions as fulfilling as being a dentist!”

Dr. Pieper graduated Cum Laude from Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD, in 2004, majoring in biology. He then attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry on an Air Force scholarship to achieve his DDS, and followed up AEGD training during his residency at Wright Patterson Medical Center in Dayton, OH. He is committed to continuing education, with over a hundred of hours of post-graduate training in endodontics and oral surgery at Wilford Hall in San Antonio, Texas.

While Dr. Pieper does comprehensive family dentistry in Meridian, he says his favorite work involves eliminating pain and maximizing oral health while simultaneously restoring function and natural beauty. “Dentistry is art form that can enhance an individual’s appearance and confidence,” he says. “This is what I love most about what I do!”

When he’s not using his skills to restore smiles, Dr. Pieper can be found spending time with his wife, Afton, and the couple’s daughter, Sephra, at the family’s home in Boise. They enjoy long walks, trips to the park, and rounds of mini-golf.
